yogurt is supposed to be healthy.

i ran out of trader joe’s yogurt and did not want to drive 16 miles for a cup of yogurt, so i went to kroger and bought a chocolate mousse style yogurt from yoplait’s “whips!” line. i stupidly did not read the label in the store, and when i got home i noticed it was infected with pure evil! high fructose corn syrup was listed as an ingredient!!
i ate it anyways because i really wanted yogurt, and was fascinated by the concept of whipped yogurt. it was yogurt in its most delicious form. it was light, airy, chocolaty and delicious. yoplait whipped yogurt would be the perfect snack if it did not include such an ingredient.
from the yoplait site:
“Folklore credits yogurt with properties that help the people who eat it attain a long life, good looks, and a spirited soul. We’re not sure if yogurt can deliver those results, but we do know of some other benefits yogurt provides! Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, it contains live and active cultures, and it can be a useful food for people who are lactose intolerant. Plus, Yoplait yogurt is the only leading yogurt with Vitamin D in every cup. To learn more about these benefits of yogurt, read on.”
yeah, well that may be true, but so is this:
“The livers of the rats on the high fructose diet looked like the livers of alcoholics, plugged with fat and cirrhotic.”
not to mention that yoplait yogurt is chocked full of so much other crap besides hfcs that it can barely even be considered yogurt anymore.
i sent yoplait a letter:
I bought the Chocolate Mousse Style Whips! today. I ate it and it was quite delicious, however I noticed your company uses high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient. HFCS contributes to obesity and yogurt is supposed to be a healthy food that can even help with weight loss. I am very sad that high fructose corn syrup has tainted my yogurt:( Do you have any plans to change this in the future?

i will keep you posted. maybe they’ll send me a coupon for 50 cents off of more tainted yogurt!!

It’s sad how many things have hfcs in them.

Excellent post! I too am not a fan of hfcs. I don’t consider yoplait real yogurt. Is Nancy’s yogurt available near you? It has the most live cultures of any yogurt. Billions in a small cup.
